I’m back.
Hope you didn’t forget about me. I had to take out a calendar and count the number of days since I’d posted a new entry to the journey. Finally passed Day 100 and I just realized it’s crazy how fast life is going by right now.
Let’s talk about Bix. It’s over. Thank God, ’cause this contest was killing me!
If you’re just tuning in, I was a Top 10 Finalist in the Bix.com “Second Chance” contest. It was basically a follow-on to the American Idol tryouts, except everything was online. You audition, then try to get people to vote for you. Winner takes all — and in this case it was a $50,000 cash prize. Pretty cool concept, and I must say I had a blast over the last month promoting it.
But it took everything out of me. Spent all my free time, my music practicing and writing time, and of course my “Nick’s Journey” time promoting the contest.
Seriously, I exhausted every avenue of promotion I could think of. Turned myself into a marketing machine. Blasted Myspace and google repeatly with messages and articles about the contest. Got featured in 2 newspaper articles (one front page!), Gavin Degraw’s fan site, and even mentioned in a Microsoft e-zine of 600,000 some-odd subscribers. All of that to garner over 11,000 page views of my contest entry! All of this in 2 weeks time…
Now I’m the one who’s exhausted.
A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped me get votes. To all those who posted and re-posted bulletins, called/begged friends to vote, you guys are Superfans. To my new friends from Bix, I really do appreciate all your help from the bottom of my heart. We gave it a great run, but in the end, just couldn’t pull enough to take the prize.
That is, if you think winning the $50,000 was the only reward… It wasn’t.
(You know who you are.
